Joynton Avenue upgrade and construction of Zetland Avenue (east) in Green Square

Various works are being undertaken including drainage and creating a tree-lined boulevard and transport corridors.

Project Status: In progress

What we’re doing

To minimise the risk of flash flooding we raised the level of Joynton Avenue between Hansard and Elizabeth streets by around 1.7 metres.

At the same time, we started construction on the new Zetland Avenue. This will be a 36-metre-wide tree-lined boulevard and a central transport corridor for all modes of transport.

This first stage of Zetland Avenue is for the eastern section of the avenue from Joynton Avenue to Victoria Park Parade.

The team are undertaking service installations and are preparing for deep drainage. Soon, traffic will be diverted to accommodate drainage works on Joynton Avenue. As a result, there will be some pedestrian and traffic changes to accommodate a progressing work zone.

At all times, two lanes of traffic will be maintained and traffic control in place to guide vehicles safely around the area. Pedestrian access will also be temporarily diverted in some places but we will maintain pedestrian access throughout the works.

Some night work may be required to complete this work. When dates of night work are confirmed we will notify nearby residents.

Works will take place between 8pm and 5am during this period. All noisy work will be completed before midnight. All other work will take place from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and 7.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday.

Planning is also underway to build stormwater pipes under Joynton Avenue to mitigate smaller flood flows.
