Bourke Street, Waterloo: shared path works

To improve pedestrian and bike rider safety, a shared path now connects the Bourke Street and Bourke Road cycleways providing a 7km north-south corridor from Mascot to Woolloomooloo.

Project Status: Completed

Bourke Street, Waterloo is already part of a popular travelling route from south of the city to Darlinghurst, the city centre and Woolloomooloo, being used by around 400 bike riders each day.

To improve pedestrian and bike rider safety, a shared path now connects the Bourke Street and Bourke Road cycleways providing a 7km north–south corridor from Mascot to Woolloomooloo.

We improved a 1.5 km section of the path between Phillip Street, Redfern and Botany Road, Green Square. The upgrade included:

  • wider paved footpaths
  • improved street lighting
  • new garden beds
  • new bus shelters
  • additional seating
  • extra bike racks
  • new shared path signs.
