Borrowing books and more
When you become a member, you can borrow as many as 30 items for as long as 3 weeks.
That includes books and ebooks, magazines, ecomics, graphic novels, audio and eaudiobooks, music CDs, DVDS, video game consoles, language and makerspace kits.
Just remember to renew online or return them on time, otherwise your library card will be blocked and you won’t be able to use it.
Your library membership also lets you stream music and films, take online language learning courses and research your family tree with Ancestry Library Edition.
Toys and early literacy programs
There are toys and puzzles for preschool-aged children to borrow at Glebe, Surry Hills or Waterloo branches.
Regular storytime and rhymetime sessions for babies, toddlers and preschoolers are held at all branches.
Musical instruments
Ukuleles are available for loan from Kings Cross and Green Square Libraries.
There is also a range of guitars and keyboards available for use at Green Square Library.
Video game consoles
A collection of classic video game consoles is now available to borrow from the library.
All the consoles come pre-loaded with plenty of games, ready to plug in and play at home.
Library members can borrow 1 console for 3 weeks.
Makerspace kits
Experiment and explore with our new makerspace collection of over 300 robotic and educational kits available to borrow.
Kanopy Kids
Our Kanopy streaming service has a dedicated kids platform for ages 3 and older.
Stream and watch inspiring films, TV series, animated storybooks, anime favourites and classic films.
Parental controls are available for additional safety.
Britannica Online
This resource is a great place to start researching school projects.
The online version of the Britannica Encyclopaedia comes in 3 versions for kids, teens and adults.
The login is your member number without any spaces.
Busythings
Hundreds of online educational games and activities for children aged 3 to 11 years.
Children are encouraged to discover and learn through games and activities in literacy, numeracy, creative development and general knowledge.
There is also a selection of activities in French and Spanish.

PK magazine
PK magazine is aimed at primary school children and encourages contributions from its readers.
The magazine includes stories, poems, art, craft, reviews, musical performances, science projects, competitions, sporting heroes and interviews with authors.
Spine Out
Spine Out is an exciting online magazine for young adults. It's a special place for young adults to express their ideas and thoughts and share their creativity in words, art, film or music.
Storytime and rhymetime online
Are you and your little ones missing our regular early literacy sessions?
You can now watch these popular sessions online any time from home.
Presented by our librarians, new videos are added each week, with storytime for pre-schoolers and rhymetime for younger kids aged up to 2 years.
Story Box Library
Kids aged 3 to 12 years can enjoy listening to and watching stories read by well-known Australian actors, comedians, musicians, artists and authors.
There’s also a range of fun educational activities. Login using your library membership number.
Storyline Online
Award-winning children's literacy website streams videos featuring well known actors reading children's books.
Tumblebooks
An online collection of animated talking books, read-alongs, ebooks, graphic novels as well as fun puzzles and games for children aged 3 to 11.
There is also a selection of titles in Spanish and French. Login using your library card number.
VOX read-along audio books
This collection of picture books each has an in-built audio recording to help develop early reading skills. Kids can simply push a play button to listen and read-along.
The books come with a VOX Reader which has a headphone jack, external speaker, play/pause button, volume and page turning controls and a rechargeable battery.
The VOX read-along collection is located at Green Square Library and can be reserved using the online catalogue.

For senior school students the library provides a range of homework and research databases including Literary Reference Centre, Science Reference Centre, Australia and New Zealand Points of View Reference Centre, Proquest Research Library and more.
