Displays will still have to meet criteria in the local approvals policy for the displays of goods on the footway.
This will make it easier for local shops to display their goods on footways. The change aims to not only support local businesses by encouraging passing trade but also create livelier streets.
The City has also recently adopted outdoor dining guidelines that provide detailed advice for business operators on providing a clear path of travel to consider the needs of pedestrians with accessibility requirements. Displays on the footpath like outdoor dining need to maintain the function, effectiveness and equitable access of public footways.
We will consider all submissions and report the results to the council and the Central Sydney Planning Committee. If the council approves the proposal, it will amend the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012 on behalf of the Greater Sydney Commission.
