The City of Sydney operates 3 childcare services:
Alexandria offers long day care. The Broughton Street and Hilda Booler kindergartens offer pre-school programs with extended hours.
We run 6 after-school and vacation care programs for primary school children aged 5 to 12 years in Pyrmont, Surry Hills, Redfern, The Rocks (KGV), Ultimo and Woolloomooloo.
Redfern also offers full and half-day care on occasion.
Alexandria Child Care Centre has 66 places available catering to children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our qualified and experienced educators place a strong focus on quality interactions and education designed to prepare your child for school.
Our program is based on the national early years learning framework, which focuses on children's interests, strengths and individual needs. Our educators work closely with the children to develop a play-based program that is enriching and encourages collaborating with peers, making choices while building on their strengths and emerging skills. The experiences we offer foster children's social, creative, language, cognitive and physical skills.
Healthy, nutritious meals and snacks are served throughout the day.
The centre is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm. It's closed on public holidays, staff development days and for a short period between Christmas and New Year.
In 2019, we commissioned and published an analysis of child care needs across the local area now and into the future. The report was completed in partnership with Families at Work and provides an update to the 2013 study.
The analysis covers centre-based child care, long daycare, preschool, occasional care and home-based care.
The report includes interviews and surveys with providers and users of child care in our area. We thank participants for their responses. These will help us to support the needs of families in our area.
